Space X to launch 4,000 broad band internet satellites into space by 2019

Elon Musk’s SpaceX wants to start launching thousands of internet-providing satellites during 2019.
Structured in multiple phases through 2024, the 4,425 satellites would use advanced mesh networking to offer high speed broadband services in rural areas that still have to rely on dial-up or simply don’t have access to any Internet service options.
SpaceX is currently planning on launching the first prototype of the broadband-providing satellite into space by the end of 2017 and a second prototype during early 2018.
If successful, satellites will be launched in batches over the next decade. The company is projecting a $30 billion revenue stream from the satellite network by 2030 and may increase the total number of satellites orbiting in space by an additional 7,500, if approved by the government.
This broadband distribution strategy is opposite of other internet service providers. Companies like Comcast and Time Warner have to invest heavily in fiber cable installation, which involves navigating property rights as well as digging trenches to install miles of fiber-optic cable.
Of course, SpaceX will have infrastructure costs on the ground, specifically to help manage broadband resources in areas of high congestion.Space X to launch 4,000 broad band internet satellites into space by 2019

Is NBA in crisis?

The present state of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is debatable. While some lawyers say the association is not in crisis, others want the public to know that NBA is in serious crisis.
The NBA is the umbrella body of all lawyers in Nigeria with a membership strength of about 106, 000 lawyers which makes it the largest association of lawyers in Africa. The NBA is not seen as just a group, but an elitist and well educated one.
The NBA president, who is the chief spokesman of the association, enjoys respect both nationally and internationally. This position is one that every lawyer who gets to a certain level in his career wants to occupy.  Is NBA in crisis?
Muritala Abdulrahseed, one of the high ranking officers in the Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud-led NBA, said during a telephone interview that “there is no crisis in the NBA.”
According to him, the problem with the NBA is “over politicization and high wire politics in which NBA is seen like any other political arrangement just like you have political parties. And if one wins, the other must stay in opposition and try to bring down the party in government.”
He advised lawyers to shun anything that will bring the association to disrepute even as he extends the olive branch to other lawyers.
According to him, “the day you start destroying yourself, others will join you.”
However, Darlington Onyekwere, an Abuja-based lawyer disagreed with this position. According to him, whoever said that there is no crisis in the NBA is living in self denial.
Onyekwere, who said that there were both constitutional and leadership crisis within the association, pointed at the March 30, 2017 judgment of a Federal High Court Abuja, delivered by Justice Tsoho in the case of Olasupo Ojo V. Registered Trustee of the NBA, in which the Federal High Court upheld the amended NBA constitution, adopted at the Delegates Conference held in Calabar in August 2001 as the extant law.
The issue before the court was that the 2009, 2013 and 2015 (which introduced electronic voting that produced the AB Mahmoud-led exco) amended constitutions of the NBA were not registered at the CAC as required and thus offended the mandatory requirement of Sections 597 to 600 of CAMA.
The court in the declarative judgment ordered that not only were the 2009, 2011, 2015 NBA Constitutions nullified to the extent of their inconsistency to the extant Constitution but also voided all actions , decision and activities howsoever described, already taken, or intended/planned to be taken and carried out by the defendant, her officers, staff, organs, committees,  branches, members, representatives and or any other person acting on behalf or in the name of the NBA in any manner whatsoever including but not limited to conduct of election in branches of the NBA and plan/program/notice for election into national offices of the NBA pursuant to the NBA 2015 constitution.
It is trite law that the court of law guides its judgments jealously and every judgment of court must be obeyed immediately. Arising from this, Mr. Olasupo Ojo, through his lawyer Mr. A. C. Ozioko, petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen who double as the chairman of the Body of Benchers (BOB) to take over the management and administration of the affairs of the NBA by operation of the law. The petitioner referred to all the current members of the NBA exco as “ousted”. The petitioner mentioned Section 10 (2), (3) (b) and (4) of the Legal Practitioners Act, 2004 that provides for the functions of the BOB.
A letter was also written to Access Bank Plc requesting for suspension of operations on NBA accounts pending the takeover of the administration and management of the affairs of the association by the Caretaker Committee to be set up by the Chief Justice of Nigeria
A very senior lawyer who does not want his name in print said that after this judgment, AB Mahmoud-led NBA exco has engaged in several acts of impunity for staying in office.
He said that after the homes of judges were raided nationwide recently, the NBA demanded that the affected judges be suspended in line with the rule of law and now wondered why the same NBA exco should stay in office after the March 30 judgment.
In a swift reaction, the NBA president, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), said that the association was not in contempt of court. Mahmud said the leadership was aware of the judgment which nullified all NBA constitutions since 2001 and had engaged with members and NBA trustees on the way forward.
He said the association has appealed the judgment and asked for a stay of execution, adding that further meeting would be held with the trustees “to discuss the judgment and find a way around it.”
Mahmoud said: “In the meantime, the Bar Association has appealed that judgment and there is also an application to set it aside on the ground that the action was improperly constituted, the plaintiff having sued the wrong parties.
“We think this is very disruptive and we shouldn’t allow it to distract us from what we were doing.
“We understand the need to respect court judgments, but we have been advised that once we have filed an application for stay, we’ll not be technically in contempt of that judgment.
“There is also another judgment which was brought to my attention which says exactly the opposite about the NBA constitution. These are part of the challenges which I think we should be able to overcome. Hopefully we should build enough consensuses in the Bar to address these challenges.”
Asiwaju Adegboyega Solomon Awomolo, on his part, wrote to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and minister of Justice Mr. Abubakar Malami SAN in his capacity as the leader of the Bar.
Awomolo said the issues that paralysed the NBA between 1992 and 1998 started like a joke.
The implication of this judgment, according to Awomolo, is so grave. He added that officers of the NBA, who are living in denial, and pretending as if nothing has changed or happened, have moved on to schedule activities towards the 2017 Bar conference in August.
He thereafter called on the AGF to liaise with the Trustees and call the NBA officers to order. “They should forthwith obey the rule of law and respect the association as an institution so that the matter may not escalate beyond control,” Awomolo said.

US Justice Department probes Uber over fake app

The Justice Department is probing allegations that Uber used phony software to thwart city officials looking at whether the ride-hailing company was following local regulations.
The city of Portland, Oregon, said in an April audit report that it was notified of the federal inquiry by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Francisco. Portland says it is cooperating. Uber and the U.S. Attorney’s Office both declined to comment.
Reuters and other news outlets have reported that the investigation is a criminal probe currently before a grand jury.
Uber’s software—nicknamed “Greyball”—identified regulators who posed as riders while trying to collect evidence that Uber’s service was breaking taxi laws. Uber allegedly served up a fake version of its app to make it appear the undercover regulators were summoning a car, only to have the ride canceled.
Portland officials began investigating Uber after the New York Times disclosed the existence of Greyball in March. “The city of Portland was notified by the United States Attorney of the Northern District of California that Uber is the subject of a federal inquiry,” the audit report stated.US Justice Department probes Uber over fake app

Gov Aregbesola, Dep Speaker Lasun ‘quarrel’ over who built bridge

A war of words seems to be brewing between the Osun state government under Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yussuff.
The brewing feud no doubt, is part of a build up by both camps to take control of the state’s politics, towards the 2018 governorship election in that state, as both camp are at daggers drawn, as to who gets the credit for a bridge that was recently constructed.
Each part is claiming to have been the one responsible for the designing and construction of the Ojutu Bridge along Erinle River on Osogbo /Ilobu /Ifon / Ogbomoso road in the State, and is calling the other camp liars for claiming the credit.
During an interview on the state-owned Radio and Television Stations, a former commissioner Mr. Kolapo Alimi and a cabinet member nominee of Aregbesola, Engineer Nurudeen Adeagbo, Permanent Secretary, Osun State Ministry of Works and one Hon. Kamil Oyedele a member of State House of Assembly representing Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency, stated that the award of the “Ojutu bridge was facilitated by Aregbesola.
They debunked reports that the project came to life due to the handiwork of Lasun, as widely believed.
But addressing a press conference on Thursday, Dr. Aderemi Suleiman Ajala, Special adviser to Lasun Yussuff on Constituency Relations, described their assertions and the state government as “an indecent liar”.
According to him, “Yussuff, a Federal Honorable representing Irepodun /Orolu /Olorunda / Osogbo Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, and the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, facilitated the project as one of the capital projects attached to his office as the Deputy Speaker.”
He went on to explain events that led to the construction of the bridge, as championed by the deputy speaker.
“The background to the construction of the bridge rests on Lasun’s belief that politics is an instrumentality of development. Hence, as soon as he became the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, on the 30th November 2015, Lasun wrote a letter (Ref: NASS/HR/DS/BNA/M5C/470), to the Hon. Minister of Works, Power and Housing, where he called the attention of the Hon. Minister to the deplorable condition of the said bridge and the need to design and construct a new bridge that could replace the existing narrow one that was about 102 years old”, he stated.
He also claimed that Lasun’s constituency Relation Office “is not interested in politicizing development”, but enjoined “some mischievous and malicious elements associated with the government of Osun State to desist from parading indecent lies in an attempt to glorify their dwindling images and political personalities”.
It would be recalled that the camp of Aregbesola, and Lasun had also clashed recently following the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke, and the rumours that trailed his demise.

An eyewitness told NAN that the two 18-seater buses had a head-on collision and the buses caught fire immediately.

“All the passengers in the two buses were burnt beyond recognition.

“Only a baby escaped death because the father of the child threw him out through the window of the bus,” the witness was quoted as saying.

Yusuf Salami, the Oyo state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the accident to NAN.

Salami, however, said he had yet to be briefed on the casualty figures.

He confirmed that the accident involved two 18-seater buses.

Ohanaeze sounds warning to Presidency, EFCC over Ekweremadu

The Enugu State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has warned of the consequences of any plot against Senate Deputy President Ike Ekeremadu by the Presidency and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State, Chief Alex Ogbonnia who stated this in a statement he signed himself said that the group will not sit idly by and watch their son being maligned, oppressed or ridiculed by the Presidency or the EFCC.
The warning is coming despite EFCC’s denial of hatching any plot to plant implicating materials in the House of Ekweremadu in order to nail him to a crime, as recently alleged by the senator.
Ekweremadu had in his claim said that the Federal Government was plotting to use the EFCC to carry out the evil intention against him, with the aim of removing him from the Senate.
But Ogbonnia said in the statement, that, “The denial by the EFCC notwithstanding, we wish to warn, in the strongest terms possible, that the Enugu State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will not sit idly by and watch our son being maligned; oppressed or ridiculed by the Presidency or the EFCC.
‘We are not unmindful of the fact that this plot gained currency with Senator Ekweremadu’s role in perfecting the bail conditions of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, who was granted bail recently with stringent conditions.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Ekweremadu did what he was supposed to do in the circumstance as a firm believer in the rule of law and justice.”
Ogbonnia, who recalled the court move against Ekweremadu over forgery of the Senate Standing rules by the Federal Government, which was later withdrawn, alleged that several moves had been made by the Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress government to pull the senator down since his emergence as the deputy Senate president in the 8th Senate.
“Soon after his election as the Deputy Senate President, the Presidency accused him of forgery and eventually arraigned him before a judge in Abuja on trumped up charges of forgery. The Deputy Senate President was eventually discharged and acquitted of all the charges. Soon after this, hired assassins breached the convoy of the Senator with intent to assassinate him.
“Though this matter was officially reported to the security agencies as well as the Presidency, the matter was swept under the carpet. Till date, neither has any arrest been made in connection with the assassination attempt nor any official statement been issued by the government.
“It is in view of the foregoing events that we take seriously the recent revelation by an impeccable source on this grand plot by the presidency and the EFCC to plant exhibits in the residence of the revered Senator with intent of framing him up and bringing him to national and international disrepute,” he said.Ohanaeze sounds warning to Presidency, EFCC over Ekweremadu
